About Us

The Animal ER of University Park is a well-equipped 24/7 animal hospital with diagnostic, surgical and life-saving equipment. We are staffed by veterinarians and licensed or highly experienced veterinary technicians who are physically present during all operating hours.

Patients are seen on a first come first served basis with more serious patients receiving a priority. We do not take appointments, however a phone call prior to the visit is recommended and extremely appreciated.

Our history: In 2002, the founders of Animal ER of University Park recognized the need for comprehensive and compassionate veterinary emergency care hospital to serve the counties of Manatee and north Sarasota where none existed. Since that time, we have been open every night, weekend, and holiday.

We are proud to work closely with the Canine Units of both Manatee and Sarasota counties, along with a multitude of animal rescue groups.

Our staff: The Animal ER staff currently consists of:

  • 5 full time Veterinarians

  • 4 full time Certified/Licensed Veterinary Technicians

  • 2 full time Veteran Lead Technicians

  • 1 full time Customer Care Specialist

  • 3 part time Customer Care Specialists

  • Blood Donor, door greeters and client comfort specialists: Penny and Sheldon a.k.a. Orange Juice and Chocolate Milk

  • Plus, we frequently host veterinarian and technician student interns

Our facilities: The Animal ER consists of a reception area, 4 examination rooms (2 for cats, and 2 for dogs), a large combined treatment/pharmacy/critical patient area, a ward room consisting of 6 large runs and multitude of smaller kennels. In addition our surgical suite has a fully stocked laboratory, radiology suite, and a separate isolation ward.

Services we don’t provide: The Animal ER does not provide preventative health care services or products (vaccinations, spays or neuters, tick control products, food sales, or heartworm prevention). These services and products will need to be obtained from your regular Veterinarian.
